It is tied up with Engineering in general at the Tech, G and W S Tech
RTC, RCST etc
Initial professorship was that in 1877 (APPLIED MECHANICS)
First students to take diplomas started in 1887
By 1911 Professor in Mechanical Eng and Prof in Civil Eng
Date of appointment of Geo Moncur was 10th Nov 1910
According to court minutes in SU Archive
But after Prof Moncur became a joint chair of
Prof of Civil and Mechanical Eng
On Moncur’s death in mid 1930’s the Chair lapsed
Then when Prof William Frazer was appointed to Chair of
Civil Engineering in about 1953

D M Logan joined RCST as Mechanical Engineering student but after 1st year
Transferred to associateship in Civil Engineering, was top student in 3rd year
And awarded attendance at British Association of Science meeting in
Nottingham and finished as top student in the final year (1967) when awarded
First Class Honours in Civil Engineering
Started to do research in the Simulation of Curved Bridge Decks using Finite
Element and other methods but in December 1969 was appointed as a Lecturer
In Structural Engineer and started this in Jan. 1970
Continued in this post until Jan. 1990 when had to retire on ill health grounds
Professional Qualifications
MBCS in about 1974 teaching Computing Methods
CEng in about 1999 (MBCS became valid for Chartered Engineer Status)
CITP in about 2005 (MBCS Chartered IT Professional)
